Welcome Fammatre and TISA students.

The purpose of the blog will be to offer opportunities for Fammatre and TISA students to learn about each other through common questions that will be asked and answered each month on the blog. By comparing the responses, students will be able to identify the differences and similarities between their school, community and country.

Let's start by introducing our schools to each other.

TISA stands for The International School of Azerbaijan. It is located in Baku. Azerbaijan is situated on the western shores of the Caspian Sea and is bordered by Georgia and Armenia to the west, Russia to the north and Iran to the south. Baku, the capital city, is situated on the Absheron Peninsula and has 2 million inhabitants. TISA has about 500 students who range in age from 2 to 18.

Miss Withers teaches fourth grade at TISA. She has 13 students in her class that come from a variety of countries.

Fammatre Charter Elementary School is in the Cambrian School District in California. It is located in San Jose which is about one hour South of San Francisco and five hours North of Los Angeles. They often call San Jose the "heart" of Silicon Valley. Fammatre has over 500 students that attend Kindergarten through Fifth grade.

First Question

The first question that we posed to students this month is: "What will you do over your Winter break?"

At Fammatre, the 5th grade students in Mr. Bovone class, Mrs. Smith's class and the 4th and 5th grade students in Ms. Foy's class answered the question. Everyone in Miss Wither's 4th grade class at TISA answered the question.

We will be posting new answers over the next three days so check back each day for new entries!

What will you do over your Winter break?

Hi! I hope you don't mind if I tell you about my holiday. Miss Andrea said we can. So...I am going to Ireland and I can't wait!!! My dad and I are going to go fishing! We're also going to climb a mountain! And the best part of all is that I get to visit my grandparents. I haven't seen them for a year and I miss them. I miss going to Ireland as well. When I see my grandma, I will go shopping with her and with my cousins, too! Yay! That's why I love going to Ireland. I can hardly wait! Bye!

I am going to Hanover, New Hampshire over winter break to see my grandparents on my mom's side for Christmas. I have never missed a Christmas there my whole life. Our traditions include opening stockings in the morning, eating "bones" for breakfast and opening presents after breakfast. Bones are a almond paste wrapped in bread. What are you doing over winter break?

Over winter break I am going to San Diego and staying with my grandma and grandpa on Christmas day. I am having a party with my cousins and the theme is pajamas.

In Mr. Bovone's class:

- 27 students are celebrating Christmas
- 1 student will celebrate Chanukah
- 2 students are celebrating both Christmas and Chanukah
- 4 students and 1 teacher are going to Lake Tahoe
- 1 student is going to Oregon
- 1 student is visiting family in Pittsburgh and going to a NFL game

What's up, Guys? Hey! I'll tell you about Dubai because it's a great place to visit for the holidays. In Dubai, there are two malls. One mall is the biggest in the world! There is also the biggest building in the the world there. It's called Bin Khalifa and it's super high. The malls are huge and there are about 1,000,000,683 shops and 381 restaurants just in the small malls. There are also huge hotels to stay in. It is also hot, like about 35 or 40 degrees. It's hot because Dubai is a desert with only sand. It's still fun, though.

Over winter break, we will remain home until the 20th, when we travel to Yosemite. We'll stay there for 3 days so we arrive home the day before Christmas since being German I celebrate it on the 24th! We are really hoping for snow there, but its worked every other time we've been there so I'm not that worried.

In Mr. Bovone's class:

- 1 student is going to Oregon
- 3 students are going to a beach house
- 20 students are going to their grandma's house
- 1 student is going to Arizona
- 11 students are going ice skating

Hi! I can't tell you my name (my teacher said we're not supposed to) but I can tell you about myself. I am from Egypt. So over the holiday break, I am going there. When I go to Egypt, I will see my grandma. I will stay at a hotel and maybe watch T.V. there. I had fun telling you about my trip. I hope you enjoyed it!!

Over winter break I plan on watching movies, drinking hot coco, play Wii and sleep. I will be with my cousins, my friends and my family.

I am going to Disneyland for 5 nights! It is on the Saturday after the Friday with school. We are going to need to wake up very early.

Over Winter break, I am going to go to New Mexico for Christmas and stay there with my grandparents for five days. I am also going to read and practice trombone and play on my iPod Touch. I am also gonna put up our little Christmas tree at home and decorate it. And watch TV.

I might go to Lake Cunningham skatepark. Then going to my Uncle Scott's house to have dinner and play with my big and little cousins.

Over Winter break, I will be relaxing with my family, making cookies and drinking hot chocolate. I will also open gifts with my grandma and cousins. I will wake up at 5:00am and wake my parents up with my brother's air bullhorn.

Over winter break, I am going to Pebble Beach by Monterey. Then going to exchange presents with my cousins and celebrate Christmas at home. On New Year's I'm going to Tahoe!
